When we had left off last week, we were in San Francisco, and Peoples Temple was growing rapidly. Like we mentioned in our last episode, their rapid growth led to Peoples temple having a dozen locations by the mid 1970’s. Not only was Peoples Temple rising in prominence, but Jim Jones was also rising to prominence in the political world, and he was taking Peoples Temple with him. Peoples Temple and Jim Jones were now powerful political forces in the state of California. And Jim Jones used this power regularly; he would bring thousands of people to certain political rallies to spice up a campaign, and a lot of powerful political people started to take notice and appreciate the power that Jim Jones had. But of course, where there is politics, there is scandal. And Peoples Temple and Jim Jones were about to be at the forefront.
