From Dhammarato:
'What's the big win? What's the high for you? Where is that real top quality joy, and how does it get made? Who takes the invitation to be a made man, Noble and free?'
We can make effort to succeed in worldly endeavours, or we can succeed in the Buddha's practice right now. The former is a process of delayed gratification, usually with a whole lot of dukkha between beginning and end; the latter is not really gratification at all, but rather wholesome joy and contentment—right here, right now—with only the cost of Right Effort, which becomes energy. This wholesome joy and contentment, therefore, has the potential to become consistent, unlike worldly gratification which, as we all well know, is fleeting.
