The 80s were more than just sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll… but let’s be honest, it was mostly that.. Rob and Devin are joined by guest Chris Guzzo (Pod From the Crypt) to talk metal-sploitation horror. (David is off directing a horror movie - send him some love!)
In this episode, we dive into how both these films embrace the anti-establishment principle of horror movies and metal music. For BLACK ROSES, a Troma release, we discuss generational hypocrisy and the music censorship movement led by Tipper Gore - as well as the killer special effects and creature design. For WE SUMMON THE DARKNESS, starring Alexandra Daddario,Johnny Knoxville, and Taylor Swift’s brother, we discuss the satanic panic, TV evangelists, and rebelling against “the man”. We also touch on the use of nudity in these films… quite a bit. (Also, congratulate us! We did an 80s episode without mentioning Reagan for once!)
