WOTA #158 - Technique Serves You Until it Hurts You

You can learn how to do something up until a point, and then you must take it somewhere all on your own. You must find your own way with it, otherwise what you have learned will begin to work against you, instead of for you. The journey for any artist begins with immersing themselves into their craft and learning all the techniques they can to refine their work and achieve better results with more clarity and ease. Although, for their true creative expression to reach out into the hearts and minds of their audience it requires an entirely new level of engagement with their craft. This is found in a place of the unknown and it can be scary because it means letting go of your control and going into an entirely new area of internal exploration. This is often a place that leads you somewhere you have yet to experience or even know of until you arrive at it. In turn you become your own captivated audience member as you are in the middle of doing it, living it and experiencing it.
