Everything you do sends a message. A message about your commitment to making an impact, ability to be agile, willingness to do more than what's in your job description. So while you're hiding behind your busyness, the unintended message you send to those around you is that being a leader isn't a priority for you.
- Stop using your workload as an excuse to defer your personal development. Someday is not a date on the calendar- it's a can you keep kicking down the road.
- Don't worry about how you'll get it all done. When you take on growth and development opportunities, you build your skill set so it's actually easier to get your other work done.
- Next time you're about to bow out of an opportunity, substitute the reason for saying no for the words "that's not my priority." Feel into that and if it's true, then say no. But f it's not, find a way to make it happen.
- Stop calibrating your career to minimum standards of performance. Instead, go for what's best practice. Ask yourself if someone who has a career you'd love to have would take on a growth opportunity like what you're being served up.
- Never take opportunities for granted. If you commit, show up and be engaged.
