As we wrap up our #mentalhealthawarenessmonth series, we thought it would be invaluable to talk with a mental health professional to finish off the series. Through our partnership with Better Help (link below), we were able to be put in contact with Haesue Jo, MA, and have a discussion about veterinary professionals, mental health, and substance use disorder from her perspective. In this episode, we discuss some of the unique traits of veterinary professionals that may pre-dispose them to mental health struggles and/or addiction, lax controlled substance monitoring in our field and the role that may play, and how to look out for concerning signs of addiction in our colleagues and actionable steps of what to do if that may be of concern-SPOILER ALERT- it isn't just confronting the person. We also discuss some of the resources that are available. This discussion was a perfect cap to our Mental Health Awareness Month Series for 2022, and we're grateful to Haesue for her time and her insight. Visit the links below for resources and information. Be well, Caffeinators.
