The American Heart Association says the maximum amount of added sugars per day that a man should eat is equivalent to 9 teaspoons. For women, it’s 6 teaspoons. A 12-oz can of soda contains about 8 teaspoons of sugar and fruit juice drinks of the same size contain about the same.
