The Really REAL Real Estate Podcast
Business
Welcome back everyone to “The Really REAL Real Estate Podcast!”
Many times as realtors, we have buyers who come to us (especially first-time homebuyers) thinking they want to buy a “fixer-upper.” However, the more we look into it and discuss the “nuts and bolts” of buying a fixer-upper (no pun intended), they may re-consider buying one. Today, we talk about everything you should consider as a homebuyer to determine whether buying a fixer-upper is a good idea for you or not!
TALKING POINTS (3-5):
- Introduction
- This episode is geared specifically for first-time homebuyers, not investors!
- What is a fixer-upper?
- This could be anything from grandma’s house to a foreclosure!
- How much work needs done on the house?
- Are they minor repairs or are they repairs that are going to be more costly?
- Can it be livable for you and your family by the time you need to be out of your current house?
- What are your trade skills like?
- Will you be doing the work yourself or will you be hiring professionals to do it for you?
- What is your availability like in terms of your schedule?
- How much working capital do you have available to spend on fixing up a home?
- Are you going to be able to see the project/renovations through to the end?
- Will this house eventually make for a good re-sale?
- Location, size, layout, amenities, etc.
- Final thoughts
