The easy reply is, "Yes I am." or to parrot back what they just said. But listening isn't about being able to regurgitate information (regardless of what they teach us to do in school). Listening is about action being taken.
When an adult says, "You're not listening" to a child, it means, "You're not doing what I'm telling you to do." Does it mean something different when adults say it to each other?
