I don't know that I have ever met someone who loves small talk. Even as an extreme extrovert, I would much rather talk about things that make me think than the weather or why someone is at an event.
To get the ball rolling in that direction, I will sometimes share something that might be considered interesting or personal about myself. That signals that I am open to having a real conversation.
I wondered if other people have strategies they use. Fortunately, Laura Fitts, Jim Tam and Philip Tate, APR, were willing to have a conversation with me about it.
