Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Mercy can be thought of as pity or sympathy for someone’s suffering plus the desire to provide relief. Pity + action is mercy. And this is precisely what God has done for us, he sees us in this broken world and acted through His son to save us. Jesus reminds us with this beatitude of the extraordinary mercy the Father has shown us which should lead us to live mercifully to the world around us.
Scripture reading is Matthew 5:7
