Phil was a good runner at school but it wasn’t until he became a fire fighter 8 years ago that he decided to start running again to get and stay fit. Once he was back running he remembered how much he loved it and hasn’t stopped since.
ParkRun played a big part in getting him running again - it was an easy and accessible event to keep him training and focus on his improvement.
Not long after starting at ParkRun, Phil started a min 5k run streak (he ran a minimum of 5k everyday) which he continued for 3 years. He is still running a minimum of 5k’s most days unless injured or recovering from a big event!
Now he runs a lot further than 5k’s in backyard & front-yard ultra events. He has become very good at these very long events. If you’re not sure how this type of ultra works, its basically a 6.71k loop every hour on the hour - you keep going until you miss a cut off. It’s the last man/women standing who wins. Fun fact — in 24 hours you cover 100 miles and the world record is 90 hours! You can find a little more on these types of ultras here - https://backyardultra.com/ you might find one in your backyard :p
Phil says he’s an introvert until you ask him about running!

Phil’s Running Tips - start small, don’t do too much at once, make it social, and focus on the journey not just the goals.
