This week, we continue to explore the housing crisis in Guelph and Canada. Thoughtful solutions are presented by our panelists and host Kevin Bowman.
It's clear we have a crisis in housing affordability. Several factors contribute to this crisis: stagnant wages of renters, the transformation of housing into an investment, and the outright financialization of housing through Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs).
Our guests this week are Sean Campbell and Eric Small.
Sean Campbell is the Executive Director of Union Co-op in Waterloo. Union Co-op was created to raise funds and purchase existing rental properties to permanently remove them from the competitive real estate market.
Eric Small works for the Guelph company S.H.E.D., which maintains a commitment to quality, community, and the long-term impacts of home building on the local environment.
