For centuries the symbol of the cross has been used as a means of identification in a powerful way. Sometimes political or religious extremists have used it to claim power, like the KKK. Yet others have used it to represent good, like the Red Cross or church steeples. There is no instrument of death that is so universally popular in these ways.
But what is the purpose of the cross? Why did God choose the cross to bring forth the death of Jesus? The answer may surprise you. The cross was a symbol of three important elements, each of which applies to us today.
