Is personal development the responsibility of the organization or the individual?
"People have no loyalty. Why should I pay to develop them?"
"What if we invest in them and they leave? What if we don't and the stay?"
It has been interesting to talk to various leaders about how they view personal development.
I know one CEO who has a huge training and development budget. It is a point of pride for him to watch employees bloom, even when they take their skills on to endeavors outside his company.
I know another who has no budget for training or development and expects his employees to invest in themselves and is more than happy when his company benefits when they do.
Guess which company has better employee retention.
I wondered what others thought about training and development so I asked Glady Baradaran, Connie Whitman, MBA, and Steve Anglin, MBA.
In the end they all seemed to agree that it was smart for companies to invest in growing their employees.
Do you agree? Why or why not?
