Read 1 John 4:7-21. Our world says, “Love is God.” Put whatever you love in life – whatever makes you feel good – first, even if that means trampling over other people to do so.
The Bible says, “God is Love”. When we get this the right way around, when we truly know and love God, we learn not to live in selfishness, but to love with the love of God. Because God is love, the person who shares God’s love will love others with sacrificial love.
Knowing God’s love for us and our love for God is evident in how we treat others. As Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, sacrificial love powered by God’s love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It is not selfish, always demanding its own way, it isn’t irritable and isn’t resentful. It is never unjust but rejoices when truth wins out.
