This week I spoke with the inventor of cookies, Lou Montulli. And, I’m not talking about the cookies that come from elves in trees. I’m talking about the web cookies that have become a billion dollar advertising tool. However, when 23-year old Lou Montulli invented cookies at Netscape, a company that built one of the internet's first widely used browsers, he intended to revolutionize the way that users interact with the internet. Before cookies, internet sites had no memory of visits, which means there was no such thing as shopping carts or user accounts on the internet. In this episode, Lou talks about what made him become a web developer and how cookies and the numerous other advances that he helped develop at Netscape have changed overtime. The overall message of this episode “Getting a job that doesn’t suck.”
