DIABOLICAL: Evil Schemes Done Better
TV & Film:Film Reviews
“You can’t just cast Jack Lemmon in everything”
The panel of peril alight one of those special cinema buses that I’ve just invented to watch and then chat about 1994’s Speed. We then try to improve upon the villain’s diabolical plan for the honour of choosing next week’s film and hosting the pod.
Speed was one of the breakout hits of ’94 and established both Keanu Reeves as an action star, and director Jan De Bont as a hot commodity on the Hollywood action scene. Speed is an economical, hostage situation type deal in which Reeves must stop Dennis Hooper’s disgruntled ex-cop from bombing the best folk in the world: bus folk.

********PLOT SPOILER ALERT********
Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper) is an ex-cop with a chip on his shoulder and a cheap gold watch around his wrist. When he takes out his retirement-based frustrations on innocent Los Angelinos in a bombing campaign it’s up to Jack Traven (Reeves) and spunky, substitute driver Annie Porter (Sandra Bullock) to foil his attempt at extorting money in exchange for the safety of a speeding bus. Can they keep above 50MPH and save the day?
Just what did the panel think of this week’s movie? How can they improve upon the villain’s masterplan? And who will be christened this week’s most diabolical?
