Harnessing Happiness with Sarah J Naylor
Health & Fitness:Mental Health
Harnessing Happiness with Sarah J Naylor is an upbeat, energetic, and inspiring podcast filled with joy and laughter, wisdom, philosophies, and positive psychology.
Tune into this lively, upbeat, and inspiring episode and hear Sarah chat to the fabulous Lis McDermott, who having started her career as a secondary school music teacher is now an author, poet, writing mentor and a tongue in cheek ‘bad ass’ according to a friend!
Lis touches on the 34 years she spent in education, why she became a peripatetic teacher, schools’ advisor, and then undertook training to become a ‘cool’ Ofsted inspector, passing despite failing one of the set tasks.
As their chat evolves you will discover how, following a cancer scare / having part of her colon removed, Lis, then aged 40, divorced her husband of 18 years and started going to soul clubs with her friend.
She explains how she then met the ‘lovely Conrad’ in 1993 who she has been with ever since - 29 years. Which may not sound unusual however, as Lis explains, on paper; socially, educationally, and ethnically, they ‘shouldn’t’ be together. As Lis goes on to state though - love knows no boundaries.
She was born in 1952 as was a single child to older parents in effectively white middle class Britain whilst Conrad, who is of Jamaican descent, was born in 1964 into a large family, raised by his grandparents, lived in various flats growing up, and, due to dyslexia left school without any qualifications.
Lis shares so much more about her life, how she moved out of teaching into photography with Conrad’s support, and then into writing and mentoring other authors, and includes the two of them writing their autobiography, Mixed Feelings, which can be found along with other books by Lis on Amazon.
This truly is an episode of so many parts, incorporating as it does, a fab love story, career changes and happiness. Go on, you know you want to listen!
Sarah is naturally engaging, her energy infectious, and whether she is sharing her musings and ramblings about life in general, or having insightful discussions with her guests, as you tune in and listen, your energy levels will rise, a smile will spread across your face as your inner happiness is harnessed.
