Fr. Eric reflects on the Parable of the Master and his Servant (Lk 17:7-10) in discussing how we are called to act with purity of intention in our relationships with God and other people, as opposed to allowing our actions to be unduly influenced by motivations of fear and self-seeking.
As a key example, Fr. Eric refers to St. Bernard of Clairvaux who uses the images of “the kiss of the feet” (servile fear); “the kiss of the hand” (duty, respect and obligation); and “the kiss of the mouth” (pure love).
