This week we welcome Donato Santeramo, the artistic director of The Matera Film Festival.
The Matera Film Festival is the link between the city and the cinema, between the past and the future identity. The Festival offers three international competition sections: feature films, short films, documentaries. In the Out of Competition section, retrospectives, exhibitions, performing art, screenings for schools, book presentations and masterclasses with great authors and film professionals are mixed.
More than 40 films have been shot in Matera : from Pier Paolo Pasolini to the Taviani brothers, from Francesco Rosi to Roberto Rossellini, passing through Lina Wertmuller, Giuseppe Tornatore and Gianni Amelio up to international colossals such as The passion of Christ by Mel Gibson, Ben Hur by Timur Bekmambetov, Wonder Woman by Patty Jenkins and the 25th film in the James Bond saga, 007 No time to die by Cary Fukunaga. Unesco proclaimed it a World Heritage Site in 1993 and in 2019 it became the European Capital of Culture. In 2021, a branch office of the Rome Experimental Cinematography Center will be inaugurated in Matera.
