Sermon #518
We begin a new series based in Paul's second letter to Timothy, who was the young pastor Paul left in charge at Ephesus. This is the last of Paul's letters that we have recorded; shortly after writing this letter, Paul was executed in Rome for his faith. And where Paul's first letter to Timothy was more instructive in the polity of the Church, this letter is more personal, encouraging Timothy to maintain his course in the faith that Paul imparted to him, along with Timothy's mother and grandmother. In fact, Paul encourages Timothy to stir up, or rekindle the faith he felt on the day of his conversion. If you remember your conversion, as I do, you know it was an emotional time. Let us all strive to maintain that faith we have been given, and also endeavor to share that faith with others, that the Kingdom of God can continue to grow and flourish until Christ returns.
