“In this modern era, there are so many distractions. You pick up your phone to do one thing and the next minute you’re scrolling through Facebook for twenty minutes and you haven’t even done the thing you went to do. I think distractions are a huge part of our society at the moment so if you don’t have the purpose, that goal, that vision, whatever it is then I think it’s easier to just get distracted and float through life and go this way and then go that way and find that you’re not doing the things that you want to do and you’re not achieving the things you want to achieve. I hear so many people say ‘I’m living this life but I don’t want to live it. It’s not what I planned for.’ So how did you get there? And how do you get out of it? You need to have a vision or you need to have something clear in your mind that you want to achieve so that you can get yourself out of it.” Fiona Crawley
This is a phenomenal interview about what it means to set a goal, have a plan and then live life out loud. Beautiful Fiona Crawley, former Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medal winner takes a deep dive conversation into what it means to achieve whatever it is you set your heart on without distractions so you can live life your way with greater purpose and meaning. Fiona and her young family took a brave step and sold all their possessions to live full-time in a bus, and travel around Australia.
Fiona played on the Australian hockey team, The Hockeyroos, for 6 years. She was selected for the Beijing Olympics but sadly was injured in a practice match in Beijing, days before the Olympic Games started. This meant she missed out on playing at the Olympics. She recovered from the emotional and physical disappointment and returned to the team, winning a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
After retiring from hockey Fiona took up endurance events. She has completed 3 Ironman Triathlons, multiple 100km ultra-marathons and a 100mile ultra-marathon.
As you will discover in this interview Fiona talks about how she managed the highs and lows of being high-performance sportswomen. She talks about her love for learning especially from sporting disappointments and then how she transitioned from professional athlete to being a wife and mum.
It was in 2019 when Fiona and her husband Adam sold everything to live full time in a bus, travelling Australia.
What you will love in this interview is how Fiona has created a new life with no time frame and has truly learned to be more easy-going, the importance of slowing down and knowing how to go with the flow. She shares her insights from living in a tiny home with a minimalist lifestyle and what the real meaning of life is around family and the special connections she makes with people on the road and in her online communities.
She shares how she and her husband Adam made the decision to go off the grid and what they did to make that become a reality with their two small children Lincoln and Sage. She says it costs way less than people think and yet the rewards are totally immeasurable. With a Thermomix and Coffee Machine Fiona says life is really actually quite perfect. They spend most days at the beach and in nature and as you will learn are living the life many would only ever imagine.
Her experiences as a professional and international athlete draw remarkable analogies in life. She says there is always more inside of you than you think and you can do more than you can ever imagine. Fiona shares her daily self-care rituals and what self-love means to her. She believes one of the biggest problems for most people not achieving what they want is the number of distractions out there in the world.
To achieve anything you need a goal, a vision and a purpose.
She says some of her biggest lessons she has take so far is the importance of celebrating the small wins, enjoying the simple pleasures in life and making yourself a priority no matter where you are living. Going for a run herself first thing in the morning, doing her body boost, using her oils and being present are all things that have made her more aware and in touch.
Beautiful Fiona has done a number of my own programs and in particular, is currently enjoying the Self Love & Wellness Mentorship Program where she feels has created the connection and meaning she has needed whilst on the road. It’s about women coming together and learning.
Her words for 2021 is to ‘Be Present’. Enjoy each moment. Give energy and love and attention in the moment, and the rest will sort itself out.
Fiona says that it is ok to be different and to give yourself permission to be different.
Her final message would be to BE BRAVE, BE YOU!
Her favourite quote is:
“If you want something you have never had before, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.”
