These 30-minutes are all about: A) My Shepherd: Jesus is identified as the redeeming Good Shepherd (John 10:11), the resurrected Great Shepherd (Heb. 13:20), and the returning Chief Shepherd (1 Pet. 5:4). B) I shall not: Lack nothing. According to His inventory, not ours. The Hebrew is emphatic: ‘I want nothing.’ This implies a supply of every possible want of body, soul, and spirit in the Lord. All of the verbs in 23:1–5a are imperfect and give the psalm an unmistakably future orientation. C) Green Pastures: or “pastures of tender grass,” are mentioned, not concerning food, but as places of cool and refreshing rest. A metaphor for all that makes life flourish.
