In Podcast Episode 193, “‘Just Keep Quiet’ and Other Bad Advice,” Kim discusses the unhealthy responses of Absalom and King David to the sexual violation of Tamar. Instead of surrounding Tamar in love and protection, Absalom told her to “be quiet” and not take the offense to heart. David became “very angry” but didn’t appear to do anything healthy or helpful in his anger. Which character in the story do you most relate? How does the Lord want you to respond?

 

The primary scripture text for this episode is 2 Samuel 13:18-22 with 20 as the focal verse:

 

20 Her brother Absalom saw her and asked, “Is it true that Amnon has been with you? Well, my sister, keep quiet for now, since he’s your brother. Don’t you worry about it.” So Tamar lived as a desolate woman in her brother Absalom’s house.
