A) And welcome to 2 Corinthians. We will examine this letter simply because it is the LEAST taught and least known letter of the New Testament. How can I say that? This epistle has fewer commentaries compared to any other book. B) We need to review some of the backgrounds of this letter. This is one of as many as possible four letters written to this church. But this writing is a bit different. This is a mixture of the Holy Spirit being involved in ministry, people who attack Christians personally, and how to handle local conflicts. C) There was a struggle with which letter to teach; the other more significant competitor was Timothy. Ironically, Timothy is with Paul as he is engaging in this writing. In this case, Paul announces he is an apostle. By not by his choosing. In fact, his apostleship was “thrust” upon him. Not so glorious. D) To the church of God in Corinth and throughout Archaia. As Paul writes this, he already knows this material is going past the local hub. It is to the church and the saints. We don’t write letters to dead people. Don’t be offended. Rejoice.
