Bridging the Cyber Divide: Series 2 – Ep1: The proposed new CI Act and what it means
The Security Legislation Amendment (Critical Infrastructure) Bill 2021 marks a step-change in the way the Australian Government defines critical infrastructure and has put significant requirements on a range of new industries to ensure they are compliant.
While critical infrastructure and cyber security are not new, the scopes for these areas are much broader and the very detailed draft legislation requires a solid understanding of what the impact will mean for various industries. There is currently a high level of ambiguity around how each industry will be affected and what level of compliance they’ll be held to.
Produced by InnovationAus in partnership with CyberArk, this podcast series discusses the next stage of conversations around what the critical infrastructure legislation means.
In this episode, Australian government assistant secretary, deputy group manager of cyber and infrastructure security centre, Sam Grunhard, CyberArk ANZ regional director, Thomas Fikenstcher, and InnovationAus.com’s Editorial Director, James Riley discuss the key changes brought about by the Security Legislation Amendment (Critical Infrastructure) Bill 2021, as a precursor to the series’ more vertical focused discussions.
How has the Bill been designed for practicality, and what kinds of objections are being raised by the industry?
What does the rollout look like? How is the split determined across certain industries - will all health organisations have the same security obligations?
