In 2019 the indie band YACHT set out to challenge themselves artistically and technologically. After meeting with developers at Google, the band launched an attempt create a record using artificial intelligence. The effort would require the band to use music and lyrics generated by A.I and reproduced by the band as actual songs. The result is a groundbreaking and extraordinary record called Chain Tripping. Three years later, a documentary about the remarkable making of Chain Tripping, called The Computer Accent, is being rolled out in limited release in theaters. I was very lucky to get the chance to talk with the directors of The Computer Accent, Sebastian Pardo and Riel Roch Decter about the documentary, the band, the record, and the intersection of art and technology.
