Nausicaa [1984], Warriors of the Wind [1985], and New World Anime

 

This week, John and Hunter explore the weird world of eighties anime imports under Roger Corman's New World banner. We look specifically at Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaa, the version known as Warriors of the Wind in the west, as well as New World's bizarre version of Mamoru Oshii's Angel's Egg under the heading In the Aftermath.  We also talk about the generation gap with Godzilla and Ray Harryhausen fans, Corman's shady business tactics, and changing attitudes towards anime over the decades.
