What we believe about a person shapes our relationship with that person. The same is true for our relationship with God. Our beliefs about God shape how we to talk to God, how we feel about God, and how we respond to God in our lives. So our beliefs matter. Today we’ll begin a series exploring an ancient statement of Christian faith called the Apostle’s Creed. We’ll use the Creed to help us reflect on some foundational Christian beliefs and how they shape our relationship with God. Wherever you are on your faith journey, join us for this first part of the series and discover why God is already closer to you than you might think.
The Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic [meaning ‘universal’] church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
