1: Abraham is one of the greatest people of faith and understanding. He was looking for a city whose foundation, architect, and builder is God. That helps us understand that he was looking for a place with stability, cool looks, and a reliable builder. The key in this text is to understand that Abraham was looking forward. He wasn't thinking he would find all of this in the sand. He knew he was going to find this in the sky.
2: Although Sarah is often maligned because she laughed when God said she would have a child (sidebar: Abraham laughed first), she still operated with faith. She still went with Abraham. She stood by her husband's side, believing in the greatest of things that God can do. And that faith that she had enabled her to receive power. She considered God faithful, and she was able to receive power. That would generate life where there was no life and hope where there was no hope. Hint, hint.
