Featured in TIR Episode 280 (Part 2 of 2): Funk bassist Donald Payne, a.k.a. Thump Daddy. As a member of the Crowd Pleasers, he appeared on that group’s lone, self-titled 1979 album. He also played with funk legend and Westbound Records labelmate Junie Morrison on records such as Suzie Super Groupie, and the recently unearthed and revelatory Live at Dooley’s 1975.
His other credits include P-Funk offshoot and Glenn Goins protege band Quazar’s sensational self-titled studio LP. Lately, he has been working again with former Quazar member Darryl Dixon and the Chop Horns, as well as Lakeside’s Steven Shockley and Faze-O’s Keith Harrison on new music planned to be released soon.
