In this episode of the podcast we hear from Susan Grober, who immigrated to Australia with her family as a child. She went on to develop a couple of careers - one as a cartographer for the mining industry WA and recently she’s retrained as a physio (and running coach).
About 13 years ago a family friend started running and made it sound fun and exciting, so Susan and her husband at the time decided to give it a go! She got all the usual newbie running injuries and was sick of being told by movement specialists (who didn’t run themselves) that she had to stop running in order to recover from many of her injuries. This is one of the reasons she choose to retrain as a physio - to help runners to keep running!
Running ultramarathons in particular has helped Susan to develop the mental fortitude that she needed to complete her double degree and to face other difficult times in her life.
As a coach Susan tries to get across to her students that the training journey is the thing that changes you not finish line. It teaches you commitment, dedication and ultimately about yourself.

Susan’s Tips - running doesn’t mean running all the time - start with a run/walk strategy and you’ll get there much quicker than you think.
