I caught up with Jeff Irvine and Kyle Brandt to chat about A Light Within and The Recent single "Meteoric Fires" and I also got to talk to Kyle about the recent "Molitoth' album "You". A LIGHT WITHIN's immersive new single "Meteoric Fires" is now out on all streaming platforms. This dynamic textural feast of post-metal sees vast soundscapes unleashed accompanied with powerful vocals and roaming guitar-driven rhythms. Delivering an alternative twist with a progressive stance, A LIGHT WITHIN have crafted a magnetic track that is the perfect soundtrack to your day. "'Meteoric Fires' is a song that basically wrote itself. I know that may sound cliche, but it was one of the first songs we wrote when Josh switched from guitar to bass and us moving from a 5 piece to a 4 piece. We had the basic structure and were fine-tuning parts, then the world was put on pause, and it sat, unfinished. Once things started to open back up, Kyle put together a demo from our live practices, added lyrics and some extra textural synths, and finalized the breakdown and song. This is definitely an evolution in our sound, delivered with more focus and power, while remaining true to our core." About A LIGHT WITHIN: Residing in Kansas City, MO, A LIGHT WITHIN debuted their first EP, Preface, in 2013, followed by Body Matter in 2015 and Epilogue in 2018. 2022 saw the band grow with the demo single release "Terraform", kicking off a new era of singles offerings. Intense, experimental, and with a touch of theatricality, MOLITOTH produces immersive and enthralling music. The new album You will be released on February 24th, 2023, and follows the dynamic single "The Maze of Existence" released back in September of this year. Emerging delicately out of the ether into atmospheric synths and prominent percussion, "Acolyte" brings a progressive and yet serene sound to introduce the album. Instrumental layers steadily build, including orchestral instruments and choirs. This steady build up explodes into aggressively distorted guitars and harsh vocals, unleashing the dark side of MOLITOTH into the mix. "Acolyte" is epic opener that showcases the many faces of the band's experimental sound. Manipulating the dynamics of their music is key part of the charismatic nature of the album. "Disputes" follows a more traditional hard-rock track structure and yet the heavier tones weave in and out of central focus. Harsh textures are carefully placed throughout You to really emphasize the intensity of particular sections. Brighter sounding parts in "Dissipate" accompanied with powerful soaring vocals produce a dramatic impact. Despite this a haunting undertone is still conveyed. Drawing to close with "Eviscerate", MOLITOTH conclude on an eerie note. Alluring vocal performances are surrounded by an array of contrapuntal instruments. This textural display of multiple guitars and grounding percussion fuses into a thrilling track. Concluding on a sombre piano melody, the minimalism in itself makes a bold statement. MOLITOTH take inspiration from across the board of musical genres and styles. Allowing their creativity to thrive without restriction, the result is a gripping collection of emotive tracks in You showcasing the dark and the light.
