WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 31, 2023
- Weather pattern changes may begin to evolve in North America during the second week of April and that is when warming in the north-central states will begin to melt the impressive snowpack
- Two storm systems are expected in the north-central United States between now and Thursday of next week producing 1.00 to 3.00 inches of moisture and some very impressive snowfall adding to the flood potential in the Red River Basin and upper Mississippi River Basin
- U.S. southwestern Plains are advertised wetter again for the second weekend of the outlook, but this feature seems overdone by the GFS model run and some caution is advised
- The heart of the U.S. hard red winter wheat region does not get much moisture in the next ten days
- Rain will fall abundantly in the Delta, Tennessee River Basin and portions of the lower eastern Midwest for the next ten days keeping fieldwork to a minimum
- Flooding in the upper U.S. Midwest and northeastern Plains will begin in the second and third weeks of April
- California’s stormy weather pattern is winding down
- Canada’s Prairies will continue to see limited precipitation for a while
- Central Brazil rainfall will resume in the second week of the forecast and recent drying has been good for soybean harvesting
- Southern Argentina rainfall will be lightest for the next ten days while rain falls farther to the north benefiting late season crops, but interfering with fieldwork at times too
- China’s Yellow River Basin and North China Plain will get rain late this weekend into early next week improving early season planting moisture and wheat development conditions
- China’s Yangtze River Basin will be dry into the weekend and then get rain late this weekend and next week
- Far northern India will get periods of rain into early next week threatening winter wheat quality
- Southeastern and far eastern India will receive rain during the next ten days favoring winter rice and sugarcane
- Northeastern Algeria and Tunisia will get rain late this weekend into early next week
- Morocco and northwestern Algeria may get dryness easing rain after April 4, although it will be sporadic and light
