After reproving the leaders for their willful spiritual blindness (John 9:39-41), the Lord delivers one last discourse, an allegory based upon the OT figures of the Good Shepherd (Zechariah 11:4-14; 13:7; Ezekiel 34:23-24; 37:24-25). Jesus says, "I am the Good Shepherd." What does it mean to have the Lord as our shepherd and to be the sheep of his pasture?
