Piotr Babis is a Polish-born trail runner based in Tasmania. He studied tourism and recreation at university, which allowed him to travel to lots of different countries. This is also how he ended up here in Australia and eventually working as a guide on the Overland Track.
At 22 Piotr started running to keep fit and five months later he had completed his first race which was a marathon! This is where his love of running started - now his love of running has combined with his love of adventures in the wilderness … i.e. ultra trail running.
Piotr has completed many races and adventure projects, including a recent nine-day fundraiser where he completed nine multiday walks in Tasmania and raised $13,000 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
We talked about the importance of enjoying the process, pushing through low moments during events, and balancing adventure and competition. Piotr credits his Polish stubbornness to helping him to persevere, despite setbacks like injury and bad weather.
Piotr is a man full of energy and enthusiasm for wild adventures - always with a smile on his face :)
He is an example for all of us to pursue our passions and live life to its fullest potential.
“One of the reasons I do like running adventures is the ultimate feeling of freedom you get. You're not overwhelmed with anxieties from work or life, you’re just out there running.” ~ Piotr Babis ~

Piotr’s Tips - Take it easy, start with running once or twice a week and build up while being consistent. Enjoy it as much as you can, whether you want to run on the street or in the forest (or up a mountain).
