Nikki Wynd didn't have an interest in running when she was younger, preferring to play tennis and basketball. However, after having her son, she started running and never looked back. She began with the Oxfam event and then progressed to ultra-marathons, including 100-mile and 24-hour races.
Nikki is very passionate about her running and challenges herself with different types of running, including road, trail, and track. She enjoys mixing up her training and race selection to keep things interesting. Her upcoming races include the Coburg 24 Hours, Dead Cow Gully Australian Masters, and Spartathlon in Greece.
Nikki's proudest achievement was winning one of the toughest ultramarathons in the world, the Badwater Ultramarathon in 2015 (first Aussie woman to do so). She believes that hard work and focus can lead to achieving one's goals, even without a background in running. We touched on the mental strategies she uses during long runs to stay motivated and positive.
Running has impacted Nikki's life in so many ways from awesome travel opportunities and as a fantastic way to decompress from stress. She encourages anyone interested in running to just start by getting out the door.
