This program will offer an overview of the bankruptcy process as it relates to individuals and businesses from both the debtor and creditor perspectives. The presentation will describe the parties to a bankruptcy proceeding, how the various chapters of the Bankruptcy Code work, how creditors are paid, and litigation in bankruptcy court.
Substantive topics will include property of the bankruptcy estate, the automatic stay, non-dischargeable debts, and treatment of executory contracts and leases. This program is designed as an introduction for attorneys interested in exploring bankruptcy as an area of practice, as well as those practicing in other areas where bankruptcy issues may arise.
