Woman vs. Swimsuit.
It is a battle as old as time.
Sure, in the grand scheme of life, feeling bad about your body as you wrestle them into strange cuts of lycra in the unforgiving light of a dressing room doesn’t compare with not having things like enough food or clean water. Even though we know this is a first-world problem... there are women out there who just won't do it. They don't wear a swimsuit. They don’t go to the beach or the pool. They basically forgo summer because they can’t stand the way they look.
Ok… I am not here today to change your opinion of your body. But I want to ask you to reconsider how you respond to that knee-jerk resistance when it comes to swimsuit season.
One of the elements that is missing in the body positivity movement is the notion that body image isn’t a switch. We don’t go from that hopeless feeling in the dressing room with a swimsuit to feeling empowered.
There is so much in between.
In The Empowered Eating Method, we spend an entire module on this element. What body image is, how it became distorted, and how to move along the Body Image Spectrum. The reality is there are so many spaces between body hate, or what I call your body bully, and feeling empowered. There is body tolerance, appreciation, neutrality, respect, then empowerment. While that is a bigger conversation… for this episode we unpack two ways to respond to the swimsuit situation differently this year…
And why you should wear the swimsuit anyways.
Cheers, and happy eating!
