WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MAY 16, 2023
- Not many changes overnight
- Canada’s Prairies will continue dry for another week, but rain potentials may rise in “some” of the driest areas in the west during the latter days of May
- Frost and freezes will occur Wednesday morning in Ontario and Quebec, Canada without much Permanent impact on crops
- Frost and a few light freezes will also impact eastern Canada’s Prairies briefly Thursday and Friday without much impact on crops
- Patches of light frost may also impact North Dakota and parts of Northern Minnesota Friday without much impact on crops
- Rain will develop in the central and southern Plains in the second half of this week with Oklahoma, parts of Kansas, the Texas Panhandle and southeastern Colorado wettest; the moisture will be good for all crops
- Additional scattered showers and thunderstorms will impact the southwestern Plains (including West Texas) late this weekend into early next week
- Argentina is still expected to see a series of disturbances that will bring rain to wheat areas for planting moisture late this week into next week
- Center west and center south Brazil will continue seasonably dry over the next ten days
- Europe will remain wettest in the south during the next ten days with net dry and good field progress in the north
- North Africa is still expecting rain later this week and into the weekend, but it will come too late for Morocco and NW Algeria
- A good mix of weather will continue in much of Asia; including the CIS, China and India, although southern China will be a little too wet at times
- Australia rain in far southeastern Queensland and far northeastern New South Wales Monday was good for winter crop planting and establishment; most other areas in Australia will experience net drying for a while, although some coastal showers are likely
- Indonesia and Malaysia rainfall will decrease next week leading to some net drying
- Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia will turn wetter again after the next few days of net drying
