We’ve all heard of an area advertising campaign over the years revolving around the phrase, “One call…that’s all!” The message is that one call to this law firm means that your troubles are over. One call… that’s all! In our text for today, it’s not the party in need making the call, but it’s the One who has it all. Jesus calls Matthew to follow Him as He leads him out of the shady business of a fallen world and into the place of His healing, forgiveness, goodness, life, and peace. He does the same for us. For you see, Matthew’s house filled with sinners is also known as the “church” (that’s what it is because Jesus is there), this “church” is a little picture of our church. Jesus is here in this house to be with us sinners and to feed us with His very body and blood. He is here to call us to repentance and to receive His forgiveness. He is here to raise us with His life-giving Word, that we stop living our old life, and follow Him in a new life, a life of discipleship. ----- Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting.
