Mike and Crystal sit down with Dr. Robert Wenham, the Chair of the Gynecologic Oncology Program at Moffitt Cancer Center, to answer common questions and discuss early warning signs, the latest treatment options, and lifestyle changes for prevention.
Dr. Robert WenhamDr. Robert Wenham is Chair of the Gynecologic Oncology Program at Moffitt Cancer Center and Professor at the Morsani School of Medicine. Dr. Wenham is a principal investigator or co-investigator for numerous studies to improve outcomes in gynecologic cancer. His main research activities include the use of novel drugs and cellular therapies for the treatment of gynecologic cancers, but he also participates in several translational studies to explore new concepts and approaches to cancer biology and therapy. He has received the Molly Cade Ovarian Cancer Research Award from the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation. He also chairs or serves on several scientific advisory boards, data safety monitoring boards, steering committees, and cooperative group committees. At Moffitt, he was an early PI who helped develop Total Cancer Care Protocol to become one of the largest cancer prospective studies ever, and he also was the initial medical lead for the center’s Cancer Treatment Pathways.
Dr. Wenham enjoys the challenge of helping women with complex issues and the opportunity to offer them cutting-edge therapies, from the latest chemotherapy approaches to biological targeted therapies, minimally invasive surgery and clinical trials. He is an expert in pelvic exenterative surgery, a very complex operation involving many organ systems that offers the hope of a possible cure for certain patients with gynecologic cancer. Dr. Wenham has been repeatedly voted by physician peers as one of the top physicians in his field.
