Fitness influencers major in minors.
You've probably seen them on Instagram detailing the 'perfect' lat pulldown angle or the 'optimal' cardio routine. Sounds authoritative and revolutionary, right?
All this sounds sexy, but does it even matter?
The answer is (drum roll please)…
No.
There's a phenomenon rapidly spreading in the fitness world, called "audience capture". It's when performers – or in this case, fitness influencers – become ensnared by their audience's demands, altering their content to keep eyeballs glued to them.
When this happens, as you can imagine, it’s no longer about genuine knowledge. It’s how can they get more followers and beat the algorithm.
These influencers often prioritize fame over authenticity, sometimes to the point of absurdity – and let's not get started on the near-naked poses.
“Please, don’t take your eyes off me”, replaced “Let me help you”.
But fear not my good friend.
I'll be candid. On a personality test, my agreeableness score is a measly 4 out of 100. I'm here for the unvarnished truth, not validation.
So it's time we call it out.
Fitness influencers might just be ruining your workout.
