Alright! Concerning the subject of the Holy Spirit, there are two working aspects of the Holy Spirit in the life of the born-again child of God.
The first working aspect of the Holy Spirit in the life of the born-again child of God is that the Holy Spirit came to live inside the child of God spirit permanently when he or she received Christ Jesus as Lord and believed with his or her spirit (heart) that the Father of spirits has raised Jesus from the dead (see Romans 10 v 9, 10, Hebrews 12 v 9).
There are several ways children of God express this working aspect of the Holy Spirit in the Life of the born-again child of God. They express it as salvation, the second birth, being born-again in Christ Jesus, new creation in Christ, children or sons of God, the Father of spirits gave birth to our spirits, born by God, having the nature and life of the Living God and so on (see Romans 10 v 9, John 1 v 11-13, Romans 8 v 14-16). The child of God does not necessarily have to ‘feel’ anything when he or she is born by God in Christ Jesus. Why? This is because the birth of a person’s spirit by the Father of spirits is a spiritual experience and not a natural experience. Feeling is the voice of your natural body. The child of God ought to know in his spirit and not necessarily feel in his natural body that he or she is born of the Living God. I do not feel that I am born of God in Christ Jesus but I know in my spirit that I am a child of God in Christ Jesus. How do I know this? I know it because the Holy Spirit who came to live permanently in my born-again spirit bears witness with my spirit that I am a child of God (see Romans 8 v 16, Romans 5 v 5, 1 John 3 v 2). That I am born of God and the very nature and life of God lives in me. I know that I am a child of the Living God in Christ Jesus because I have confessed Jesus my Lord and continue confessing Him Lord and I have believed in my spirit that God raised Him from the dead and continue believing in my spirit that God raised Him from the dead (see Romans 10 v 9). I know that I am a child of the Living God in Christ Jesus because the Holy Written Word of God teaches me so (see 1 John 3 v 2, John 1 v 11-13, Romans 8 v 14, 16). I believe wholeheartedly that the Word of God is God speaking to me and His Word is truth (see John 17 v 17). I know you are a child of the Living God in Christ Jesus.
It is God who supernaturally through His Spirit gives birth to a person’s spirit when this person receives Jesus as Lord and believes that God has raised Him from the dead (see Romans 10 v 9). It is necessary that this person know that his or her nature and life did change because of the nature and life of the Living God that he or she became through salvation. The nature of God is love - Agape love! The life of God is eternal life (ZOE) (see 1 John 4v 8, 16, John 3 v 16). Because of the nature and the life of God this child of God becomes; he begins to bear spiritual fruit in his relationship with the Living God and with people (see Galatians 5 v 22-23). This child of God begins to put God and His Word at a premium in his life.
She begins to put premium on the daily feeding of the Holy Written Word of God which reveals in her the Living Word, who is our Lord Jesus Christ.
He begins to act or practice what he believes from the Holy Written Word of God by word or by deed in the Name of Jesus (see Colossians 3 v 16-17). She begins to know her authority as a born-again child of the Living God in Christ Jesus and she begins to put Satan where he belongs; under her feet in the Name of Jesus. He begins to resist and rebuke Satan because he knows that according to God’s Word he can resist and rebuke Satan in the Name of Jesus (see 1 Peter 5 v 8-9, James 4 v 7, Ephesians 4 v 27).
The indwelling working aspect of the Holy Spirit in the life of the born-again child of God is the work of the Living God in Christ for this person and it is a supernatural act. The child of God does not necessarily have to feel anything in order for him to know and to confess that he is a child of God in Christ. If indeed this person has confessed Jesus Lord and has believed in his spirit or heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead, then he is supernaturally born by God (see Romans 10 v 9).
In salvation this person spirit becomes new creation in Christ because the Father of spirits gave birth to his or her spirit. For that which is born of the Spirit is spirit and Jesus teaches us that God is a Spirit (see John 4 v 24, Hebrews 12 v 9).
As a result of salvation, the born-again child of God spirit bears spiritual fruit which are – love, joy, peace, patience (long suffering), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (see Galatians 5 v 22-23). Therefore, the indwelling working aspect of the Holy Spirit in the life of the born-again child of God enables this child of God spirit to bear or produce the nine spiritual fruit. Please pay particular attention here. It is not the Holy Spirit that produces the nine spiritual fruit but it is the born-again spirit of the child of God that produces the nine spiritual fruit. The Holy Spirit does not produce fruit. He does not need to. It is the born-again child of God spirit that produces the spiritual fruit of love, the spiritual fruit of joy, the spiritual fruit of peace, the spiritual fruit of patience (long suffering), the spiritual fruit of kindness, the spiritual fruit of goodness, the spiritual fruit of faithfulness, the spiritual fruit of gentleness, the spiritual fruit of self-control. Why? This is because Jesus teaches in John 15 v 5 that He is the Vine and we, children of God, are the branches – spiritual branches. Many of us, I am sure have seen a mango or an orange tree. One will notice that in the natural, on a mango or an orange tree, the fruits grow on the branches but the branches cannot bear those fruits unless they remain in the Vine. Likewise, we, as spiritual branches, bear the spiritual fruit. However, we cannot bear those spiritual fruits unless we constantly remain in the Spiritual Vine – our Lord Jesus Christ for the constant supply of the spiritual sap! For without our Spiritual Vine, we can do nothing. Therefore, it is the child of God spirit that produces the spiritual fruit and not the Holy Spirit. This is because we are spiritual branches in Christ and it is the branches that produce fruits. Please pause and reflect!
The second working aspect of the Holy Spirit in the life of the born-again child of God is when the Holy Spirit comes upon the child of God to give him or her power to witness the Lord Jesus (gospel or the good news) to others (see Acts 1 v 8). The expression usually used to describe this spiritual experience include - fill with the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit fall upon, the Holy Spirit come upon and so on (see Acts 2 v 4, Acts 10 v 44, Acts 19 v 6).
As I alluded to before, the second aspect of the working of the Holy Spirit in the life of the born-again child of God is that the Holy Spirit comes upon the child of God to give him or her power to witness Christ or to preach or teach the gospel and also to worship God and to edify the body of Christ.
The Holy Spirit comes upon the born-again child of God in an atmosphere of worship, praise, teaching, preaching, edification with the Holy Written Word of God. Also, the second working aspect of the Holy Spirit in the life of the born-again child of God enables this child of God to operate in the nine manifestation or gifts of the Holy Spirit - the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, [special] faith, gifts of healings, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, different kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues (see 1 Corinthians 12 v 7-11).
It is important for you to know this so do give your full attention. The Holy Spirit indwells the child of God always. He indwells in the child of God spirit forever (see John 14 v 16). But the Holy Spirit does not come upon the child of God always nor does He come upon the child of God and stays forever. Therefore, the child of God can bear or produce the spiritual fruit always but he cannot operate in the spiritual gifts always. This is because the Holy Spirit indwells every child of God permanently but He does not come upon the child of always. The Holy Spirit indwelling the child of God is a different experience from the Holy Spirit coming upon the child of God.
The indwelling experience of the Holy Spirit produces divine character through the spiritual nine fruit (see Galatians 5 v 22-23). The Holy Spirit coming upon the child of God produces power through the nine manifestation of the Holy Spirit (see 1 Corinthians 12 v 7-11). The Holy Spirit comes upon the child of God as He wills and not as the child of God wills (1 Corinthians 12 v 11).
Given that the Holy Spirit does not always come upon the child of God; the child of God has the option of the Holy Written Word of God for witnesses. The Holy Written Word of God is easily available and accessible in this dispensation for the child of God to use. The Holy Written Word of God is already anointed to produce the same power and performs the same miracle just as when the Holy Spirit comes upon the him or her. For the Holy Spirit and the Word are one (see 1 John 5 v 7). Please pause and reflect!
The Holy Spirit is God’s gift for His children (see Luke 11 v 11-13, John 16 v 13-15). If indeed, you have confessed Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, then you are born-again in Christ Jesus and therefore have become a child of God. It is therefore, your right to receive and continuing expecting to receive the coming upon of the Holy Spirit and power He brings as He wills. In our walk with God in Christ Jesus, we must desire spiritual gifts and those gifts – nine in total are mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12 v 7-11. If we desire something, we seek for that thing carefully, we look for that thing regularly, we keep asking questions for that thing daily. As born-again children of God we do not desire the things of the flesh but we are to desire spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit as He wills comes upon the child(ren) of God through the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, special faith, gifts of healings, the working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, kinds of tongues and the interpretation of tongues (see 1 Corinthians 12 v 7-11). These nine gifts of the Holy Spirit are further categorised into three. Three of these nine gifts of the Holy Spirit reveals something, these are known as revelation gifts. Another three of these nine gifts of the Holy Spirit do something, these are known as the power gifts. Another three of these nine gifts of the Holy Spirit say something, and these are known as vocal gifts.
Watch out for series 3B next week the grace of the Living God in Christ as we shall by the guidance of the Holy Spirit through the Holy Written Word of God will edify you.
Closing Prayer
To God be the glory forever and ever in Jesus Name by the power of the Holy Spirit.
I know that you are edified, exalted and comforted by this teaching, why don’t you share it with others to edify, to exalt and to comfort them also? It is also important to get your feedback and how together through the weekly teachings we are growing in faith in God’s Holy Written Word. Amen
