WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR AUGUST 31, 2023
- Tropical Storm Dalia is now moving out to sea after moving from northern Florida to North Carolina Wednesday
- The storm produced rainfall of 2.00 to more than 6.00 inches with local totals to 8.52 inches throughout the region
- Wind speeds were mostly reported in the range of 60 to 85mph in north-central Florida and from 40 to 64 mph elsewhere to the northeast into the Carolinas
- World Weather, Inc. does not believe the impact on agriculture will be very great, but some damage did occur to a few crops
- Today’s European forecast model has suggested greater rain for northwestern India in the second week of the forecast, but World Weather, Inc. believes the model is not likely to verify and that drier biased conditions should continue into mid-month
- China will experience net drying in the interior of the nation for a while, but Typhoon Saola will bring heavy rain to the Guangdong coast and possibly impact the ports of Hong Kong and southern China
- Tropical Storm Haikui may also impact both Taiwan and southeastern China this weekend into early next week
- Southern Australia rainfall will continue lighter than usual while Queensland, northern New South Wales and northern Western Australia stay dry and warm raising concern over reproduction potentials
- Europe is expected to be a little drier except in Spain, Portugal and a part of southern France where rain is expected to develop and prevail periodically for a while in the coming week
- Western CIS crop weather will continue drier biased from eastern Ukraine to western Kazakhstan, although some showers may eventually develop
- U.S. Midwest, Great Plains and northern Delta will be dry biased for the next ten days to two weeks and temperatures will be warmer than usual for at least another week to ten days
- Cooling is expected in the central U.S. during the mid- to late September with a boost in shower activity occurring with multiple cool fronts, but rainfall may continue lighter than usual
- Central and eastern Saskatchewan, Canada is receiving some significant rain today slowing fieldwork, but benefiting late season crops in a few areas
- Argentina will get some rain this weekend from Cordoba into Santa Fe and northern Buenos Aires to temporarily improve wheat crop and field conditions
