Opening Bible verse: Luke 6:12-13
There are passages in the Bible meant to simply give us instructions on how to live and there are passages in the Bible meant to be an example to us on how to live.
This opening Bible verse is an example Jesus gave us on taking a break. To go be alone to pray.
When the noise of life is drowning out the voice of God, you've gone too long without connecting with Him.
In today's episode I talk about working with a client (a 4th grader) and her mom to declutter her bedroom and create a calm corner.
For those times when you or your child needs a break to regulate emotions, here are some ideas for creating a calm corner for your own child and ideas for yourself.
1. Find a quiet place in your home
2. Get a comfy chair or cushion for the floor
3. Incorporate the senses. Artwork that is calming like religious or nature. Soft blankets, pillows or squash mallows! Good scents like fresh or dried lavender or a scented candle or diffuser. Noise cancelling headphones or headphones to listen to music. Perhaps a fountain or CD of nature sounds.
4. Fidgets for young and old. Playdough, slime, a hair brush, poppers, google and you will find a ton!
5. Coloring book.
6. Rosary beads and devotional books/journals
7. Fresh flowers or some other reminder to breathe.
Lastly, outside your home...walk barefoot in the grass, over rocks or take a swing on the swing set.
