In the early 90’s when the Leafs were riding high to playoff success with players like Doug Gilmour, Peter Zezel, Dave Andreychuk, Glen Anderson and Felix Potvin a young long time Leaf fan and aspiring rapper named Omer Ozden, or maybe better known by his rap name ‘Young Offender’, wrote a song about the all-time greatest Leaf play by play announcer, Joe Bowan. The song was titled the Joe Bowan Rap. The song gained traction and success being played on radio, even hitting the HMV charts and being heard by Joe Bowan himself who reached out to interview Omer at the time. The song was rereleased the following season with all proceeds going to Sick Kids in Toronto.
Since then, Omer has traveled and lived all over the world and had a very successful career outside of rap music but has always kept his eye on the Blue and White. He joins Chad and Dale in this episode of the Tip In to talk about the song, the 90’s teams, today’s Leafs team, the pain of last season, how he sees this season, how to turn up the heat, who may score a tip in game 7 winner and more.
