In this week’s Quicky we look at the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. These are in fact two distinct approaches to learning, achievement, and personal development. A growth mindset is characterized by the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through effort, learning, and persistence. Individuals with a growth mindset embrace challenges, view failures as opportunities for growth, and are more likely to take risks in pursuit of their goals. They see setbacks as temporary and are open to acquiring new skills and knowledge. In contrast, a fixed mindset is marked by the belief that intelligence and abilities are static traits, predetermined from birth. Those with a fixed mindset tend to avoid challenges, fear failure, and may give up easily when faced with difficulties. They often stick to what they already know and are less likely to seek opportunities for self-improvement. Ultimately, the difference between these mindsets lies in the way individuals perceive their own potential and respond to setbacks, which can profoundly impact their personal and professional growth.
