Gridlock is not merely a modern day feature of American party politics; it's a phenomenon that arises from the general polarization of American cultural values. Middle ground is disappearing fast. We are at war with ourselves. Curiously, it is the "right" that has offered truce, but the "left" insists on total capitulation and absolute dominance of our culture.
